When registering a domain name, the law requires that the personal information of the owner be made public in the "WHOIS" database. Your identity becomes instantly available to the public and vulnerable to spammers, etc.
Personal information is identified as:
- Full Name
- Company Name (if applicable)
- Physical Address
- Telephone and Fax Numbers
- Email Address

Should I use a Company Name on my NetSelect account?:
The personal information used on your NetSelect account is used as the owner information when registering a domain name. If you use a company name on your NetSelect account, that company name will also appear on the WHOIS database as the owner of that domain name.
Keep in mind that a company name used on the domain supersedes an individual's name listed as the owner. For example, John Smith of ABC Products. The company, ABC Products will be considered the owner of the domain name, not John Smith.
Does it matter if I use a company name?:
No: If you are a registered business and can provide business ID, such as a Tax ID, a copy of a Business License, or a copy of a Trade Name (DBA) Certificate then it is acceptable to use a company name on your NetSelect account and/or domain.
Yes: If you are not a registered business and/or you would be unable to provide acceptable Business ID then it is not advisable to use a company name.
Why would I need to provide a copy of my Business ID?:
When a company name is listed on your NetSelect account and/or domain name, it is that company that is the legal owner of the account and/or domain name. Valid Business ID will be required by NetSelect's Domain Services department whenever you need us to assist you in gaining access to your account, i.e., email address changed or unable to remember password.
Valid Business ID provided by the requestor establishes, by law, that the person making the request is authorized by the company to do so.

Please call our 24x7 Customer Support department at (480) 624-2500 and ask the representative to assist you with a Password Reset. If you are not able to reset your password over the telephone, the representative will give you further instructions on submitting a request to our Domain Services department.
