Congratulations on setting up your new account!!
Below are a few Account Security Tips that you need to be aware of to better manage and protect your account.
When you set up your account, NetSelect will issue you a Customer Number. Then, you will create your own:
Customer Login Name Secure Password Pin Number
Please keep this information in a secure location. DO NOT share this information with others, such as Web Designers.
When the account is set up, it will house all of your:
Personal Information: Name, Address, Email Address, Pin#, etc. Account Login information, such as Password, Login Name, and Pin#. Payment Information: Credit Card, PayPal, Personal Check, etc. * Domain Names registered at NetSelect. FREE and Purchased products, such as Hosting.
From inside your account, you have access to: Change your personal information, such as Name and Address. Change a Domain Names ownership information. Change a Domain Names DNS. Add, cancel, and/or renew products and services, such as Hosting. Change your account Password, Login Name, and Pin#. Add and/or delete payment information, such as Credit Card #s.
Scenario:
Lets suppose you give your Web Designer access to your NetSelect account so he/she can upload your new website. You are not at all happy with the website they have created and withhold your payment for their service. In retaliation, the Web Designer signs into your NetSelect account with the Login Name and Password you provided them. While in your account, they: Change your personal information on the account from you to them. Change the Domain Name ownership from you to them. Change the NetSelect account Login Name, Password, and Pin#. Cancel your Hosting plans. Change the Domain Names DNS to "Parked".
As a result of giving access to your NetSelect account to others, you have lost your Account, Domain Names, and Web Site. You can no longer sign into your account, and worse...you have lost everything.
Per ICANN Regulations, NetSelect is restricted from becoming involved in disputes over "unauthorized parties" gaining access to your Domain Name. This means you would need to file a lawsuit, in court, to gain access to your account and Domain Name.
Don't let this happen to you! If you would not give your personal bank account or credit card information to another party then DON'T share your NetSelect account information with them either.
Assign an AccountExec:
If you would like to give another party, such as your Web Designer, limited access to your Domain Name(s), you have the option of setting them up as an AccountExec. And best of all...it's FREE!!
